Visitation
Visitation (or parenting time) deals with the concept of sharing the children between their parents in a manner that is in the best interests of the children and is also fair to both parents. Gone are the days of fathers receiving in every case alternate weekend visitation with their children plus one evening for dinner. While this still happens in many cases, many other fathers are not content with this "traditional" approach that many judges, lawyers, and litigants had found acceptable in the past.. Indeed, in the past few years we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of fathers who seek (and obtain) primary custody of their children.
Additionally, New Jersey has a statute allowing grandparents to seek visitation with their grandchildren over the objection of one of the children's biological parents in appropriate circumstances.
